Programme for Road safety campaingn
Organisation
KURA in collaboration with City Council of Nairobi and Traffic Police Nairobi Area and Matatu Sacco’s organised a road safety campaign to coincide with the Christmas festive season.During this season every year, there is a large increase in vehicular traffic as passenger service vehicles and personal vehicles are used to ferry holiday makers to their various destinations around the country.
Methodology
The teams would enter passenger service vehicles at the termini where they would sensitise passengers and crew on road safety issues and especially on the responsibilities of all for ensuring that the vehicle arrived at its destination safely. They were then issued with reading material to refer to during and after the journey. The teams also engaged private vehicle owners along the Roads.
Launch
The Road Safety Campaign was officially launched by the Assistant Minister for Roads, Hon. Lee Kinyanjui on the morning of 13th December 2012 at the Nairobi Country Bus Station along Landhies Road. It was attended by officials from the City Council of Nairobi, KURA Board and staff members, officials from Traffic Police Headquarters and members of the public.
TV Campaign
The campaign also involved a parallel one on Citizen TV that was sponsored by KURA and the Ford brand of CMC Motors. It involved broadcasting of informercials with messages given by KURA management on the Authority’s activities geared towards making roads safer for all users.
